Aesthetic Medicine is about improving someone’s image to boost their confidence and wellbeing and it's why I really love what I do! From day one of setting up my aesthetic business, the fundamental ethos had always been SKIN HEALTH FIRST. In my opinion healthy skin is the foundation for all nonsurgical treatments, so that is at the forefront of all my consultations.
My approach has always been about looking at the patients skin needs first, meaning that there is a solid action plan put in place which has strong roots before moving onto injectables and other energy based treatments. Combination treatments are needed sometimes to achieve a patients desired aesthetic goals.
So what do I mean by combination treatments?
Generally most patients want more collagen!
Collagen banking... what is this beauty term used in medical aesthetics? It’s a phrase used to describe ways of preserving your natural beauty rather than reversing time. There are many ways to boost your collagen levels. In aesthetics we normally need a combined approach. Here are some ways of doing that:)
✅ The object of a chemical peel is to accelerate the natural process of exfoliation which promotes skin rejuvenation. The exfoliative effect of chemical peels stimulates new epidermal growth and collagen with more evenly distributed melanin. One of my favs with no down time is the AlphaRet® by Skinbetter Science in Professional Peels! I advise patients to use hydrate lux by Obagi at night after one!
✅ EVOKE by Inmode uses proven bipolar radiofrequency energy to sub-dermally remodel the facial tissues to boost collagen levels as the skin tightens. The goal is to bulk heat collagen (superficial and deep) to 40-43 degrees stimulating neo-collagenesis (ie making new collagen). Radio frequency in aesthetic medicine has gained popularity due to its skin tightening benefits and collagen production. EVOKE is a game changing device that is hands free and comfortable which contours the face. I would advise a course of this prior to addressing any facial volume loss with dermal fillers.
✅ PROFHILO is one of the most popular injectable treatments for the face, neck and body at The Medished as my patients get their skin plumped and hydrated from within! Profhilo is highly purified hyaluronic acid which is injected into the skin. It initially hydrates the skin and goes on to stimulate your natural collagen and elastin production for a rejuvenating effect giving our skin a glow. HA is a water binding molecule that can hold 10,000 times its weight in water and as we get older, our bodies produce less and less of it.
✅ Microneedling with Skinpen is fantastic as nothing is injected. SkinPen® Precision works by stimulating your skin’s natural wound healing process, producing elastin and collagen to rejuvenate your skin from the inside.
✅ Dermal fillers also tend to be hyaluronic acid based combined with other ingredients. They are used to target specific areas of wrinkles or skin folds to restore the structure of the face giving an appearance of lift and better projection. Unlike Profhilo, the thicker consistency of dermal fillers means that they stay put in one spot and move naturally when you smile.
✅Top Tip! Start with prevention. Use Spf daily on your face and neck to protect your skin from future damage.
How do I know what's right for me?
Consultation really is KEY. This depends on the results you’re looking for! I strive for a truly holistic and consultative approach. I take the time to do a full hour consultation for all new patients to truly understand skin and ageing concerns, and build a bespoke regime based on my years of industry expertise.
Skin health and rejuvenation has always been central to the ethos here at The Medi-Shed. I am proud of the relaxed, discreet and welcoming approach. It truly is a haven where my patients can rest easy in the knowledge that their treatments will look natural and their skin will be glowing with health – not just at the time, but for weeks afterwards thanks to their tailored home care regimen. I aim to enhance and restore my patients’ sense of wellness, self-esteem and confidence.
