Hello! today I'm going to answer a common question that I get in clinic which regards to differences and choice of our two popular injectable skin treatments Profhilo and polynucleotide Ameela. We can unleash your best skin using both products... but lets look at each product in detail to help you make an informed choice for your skin.

Tell me about Profhilo!

Profhilo, coined the injectable moisturiser by the press has been the go-to choice as a hydrating skin treatment. Profhilo contains the highest concentration of pure hyaluronic acid and has the ability to hold onto 1000 times its weight in water. With its hyaluronic acid formula, it provides deep hydration, stimulates collagen and elastin, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, and enhances skin firmness, resulting in well-moisturised looking and feeling skin.

This is what gives your skin that dewy look after treatment. There are 10 injections placed in the face using the BAP (bio aesthetic points) that might cause temporary bee sting-like lumps near the injection sites, lasting no more than 24 hours. Profhilo remains effective in the skin for approximately 28 days and is most beneficial for individuals aged 30 and above. Visible results from Profhilo treatment become apparent within a few weeks. Typically, two to three treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart, are recommended. We can treat anywhere on the body apart from the forehead and under-eye areas. The aesthetic improvements can last for about 4 months before a top-up is needed. Listen below for a summary of PROFHILO!

Tell me about Polynucleotide Ameela!

So Ameela (polynucleotide) is the new regenerative treatment that the world of aesthetic medicine is talking about. Polynucleotides are made up of nucleotides which are the building blocks of RNA and DNA. They are an innovative and effective way to restore your skins elasticity, firmness and health. They harness their regenerative super powers from salmon fish DNA (I know...crazy!- so if your vegan this treatment is not for you). They improve skin texture, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and enhance skin quality and elasticity by creating an optimum habitat for your skin's fibroblasts to thrive. These fibroblasts then work their magic by producing collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, leaving your skin luxuriously plump, beautifully rejuvenated, and radiating a captivating, luminous glow.

Ameela acts as a protector for your skin and extends the life of hyaluronic acid by up to 40% through its anti-free radical effect, keeping your skin super hydrated for longer. Ameela interacts with cell receptors, causing various cellular responses. This primarily attracts stem cells, facilitating tissue repair, encouraging new capillary formation, and altering tissue structure for immediate tightening and contouring.

If pigmentation and an uneven skin tone is your concern then Ameela can assist in reducing hyperpigmentation and improving your skin tone. They work by regulating melanin production (melanocyte cells) which are responsible for pigmentation in the skin.

If you suffer with rosacea, then Ameela might be the treatment for you. It has anti-inflammatory properties that can help calm and soothe your skin and reduce redness associated with rosacea. As it stimulates collagen production it can strengthen your skin's barrier and improve its ability to heal. Additionally they can improve the overall condition of your skin, making it less prone to flare-ups and promoting a more even complexion. Ameela is available in three different strengths, one of which is suitable for the under-eye area. Polynucleotides are often favored for certain areas as it does not cause water retention like hyaluronic acid. In the under-eye area, polynucleotides can help improve skin strength, dark circles and integrity instead of tear trough treatment with dermal fillers which tend to come with a higher complication rate.

Ameela treatments tend to outlast Profhilo - hence slightly more expensive, with effectiveness extending up to 6 months in the skin. Immediate, results are visible, especially under the eyes. Typically, two to three treatments, 2-4 weeks apart, are recommended, with aesthetic improvements lasting 6 months before a top-up is required.

Polynucleotides stimulate regeneration of the skin at a cellular level and they also offer anti-inflammatory and wound-healing benefits, making them suitable for conditions like acne, pigmentation, rosacea, eczema, and psoriasis. So in conclusion Polynucleotides get your skin glowing from the inside out. Listen below for a summary of AMEELA -previously called Nucleadyn before rebrand!

Tell me .. Is one better than another?

I'm going to be honest... Ameela does emerge as a skin treatment with extraordinary regenerative potential offering a holistic and powerful solution for a variety of skin conditions. Having said that nothing beats the glow that Profhilo gives along with its biostimulating benefits however Profhilo can't be used under the eyes unlike Ameela which can. Both products have an excellent safety profile and evidence based. Many of my patients who have these skin treatments regularly have aged beautifully - we will all age! but how we choose to do so is up to the individual. My job is to keep you looking natural and the best version of yourself. So I'm afraid that the jury is out here at The Medished...if money was no object I'd have Ameela and Profhilo treatments staggered over a year treatment plan! But I know life doesn't normally work like that - so a consultation is key with me to work out what's best for your face, your treatment goals and your budget:)

Hello everyone! Today we are going to talk about the new device launch at The Medished - DEFINE by Inmode and as their key opinion leader we are lucky to have the first device in the UK:)

Who’s excited:)) Me! As most of my patients know I love technology and what it can offer to my patients to make them feel fantastic. So when you can up your selfie game … with AI (artificial intelligence) technology why not I say! Yes I’ve tested it - and it’s as crazy as it looks, BUT it’s backed by clinical studies showing its efficacy and it works! - only the best at The Medished. All the case studies I've done in the last year with the combined technology have shown excellent results.

What is DEFINE? Well… it’s defines your face hence the name! So the platform houses three technologies - Morpheus8/Evoke/Forma so I can fully customise your treatment plan tailored to your face shape, concerns and aesthetic goals. I will explain all 3 technologies in detail now.

What is Morpheus8?

Morpheus8 put simply is a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation procedure that can achieve remarkable results in anti-ageing, lifting and tightening loose skin. The treatment can be used to transform the face and body areas, promoting a smoother, more contoured, lifted and more youthful appearance. The skin rejuvenation treatment combines microneedling and radiofrequency (RF) energy to stimulate collagen production, tighten skin, and reduce wrinkles and fine lines. Well how does it work you may wonder! The device uses tiny needles to penetrate the skin and deliver RF energy deep into the dermis. The RF energy heats the skin, causing the collagen fibers to contract and stimulate new collagen production, which in turn helps to improve the skin's texture and firmness... so it's perfect for patients wanting to regain a natural, more youthful appearance. Note: this is a technical procedure so make sure you trust the person treating you:)

Who would benefit from Morpheus8

See below!

Is there any any downtime you may ask? Well I would perform the treatment under local anaesthesia ie. a numbing cream which would be left on for an hour before treatment, and the initial redness post treatment normally goes down in a day, making it a popular choice for patients seeking a non-surgical skin rejuvenation solution. Depending on your start point and face shape I would recommend a course of 2 or 3 sessions a month apart possibly combined with Evoke. Morpheus8 can be a stand alone treatment too. So you don't have to take my word for it... this well known plastic surgeon in the US explains how amazing the technology is!

What is Evoke

This slide below explains the technology. We have had this technology for contouring the lower face for over 2 years now and had some amazing results and patient satisfaction has been high. The technology is also part of the new DEFINE platform. Evoke too can be a standalone treatment. it all depends on your start point and goals which is why a full consultation is essential.

What Is Forma?

Forma, the third technology is a non-invasive skin procedure that uses heat and radiofrequency to increase collagen production in your face, therefore lifting, tightening, and contouring your skin. We use a heated magic wand! which is rubbed up and down your face, giving the feeling like your skin is being ironed. When you’re done, your skin is visible brighter, your jaw is more defined, and overall, your face does indeed look lifted. You can have forma facials any time of the year which are great for general maintenance or for patients wanting to invest in collagen banking treatments. It too feels like a hot stone facial massage and is a firm celeb favourite!

Contact the website www.drdil.co.uk to get booked onto the waitlist - Launch offers available with Jamie for the first patients enquiring:) You will need to pop in for a set of photos and consultation. As this is a Dr-Led clinic you can ensure we have had robust training and experience with the device. You only get one face so never be price driven:)

Enjoy wellness and The Medished… it’s time to upgrade yourself for ever!

With Love,

Acne is a common skin condition that affects many people worldwide. But how do you prevent acne from forming? Understanding the main causes of acne is the first step towards finding effective solutions.

Some of the main causes of acne: excess oil production, clogged hair follicles by oil and dead skin cells, bacteria (P.Acnes) and excess activity of a type of hormone (androgens). Knowing these causes can help us identify the best strategies to prevent acne.

One of the most natural cost effective ways to prevent acne is maintaining a clean and healthy skin regimen. This includes washing your face twice daily and double cleanse at night to remove excess oil, makeup and dead skin cells. However, it's important to avoid harsh cleansers that can lead to skin irritation. Instead, opt for gentle cleansers like the Obagi Nuderm gentle cleanser, which is specially designed to clean, soothe, and refresh your skin without causing unnecessary dryness or irritation.

Diet and lifestyle changes can also significantly impact your skin health. A balanced diet, regular exercise, and adequate sleep can help reduce the risk of acne breakouts. As can small habit changes like regularly changing your pillowcases and towel to avoid the build-up of oil and bacteria. I’d recommend changing them at least twice a week if your prone to breakouts.

Topical treatments can be an effective way to prevent acne. Products like Obagi CLENZIderm system which contains salicylic acid, can help unclog pores and prevent spots. Similarly, Obagi Tretinoin ( vitamin A) works by promoting the renewal of skin cells and helping with oil control. While these products can be highly effective, it's always recommended to consult with skincare professional before starting any new skincare regimen. It does take time and commitment to improve skin-health. We offer a bespoke skincare and treatment plan to achieve this so please contact The Medished if you're struggling.

BREAKOUTS AFTER HOLIDAYS

Outside of the “normal” causes of acne, I’m often asked about acne outbreaks after returning from holiday. Returning from a holiday can sometimes lead to unexpected breakouts. You might wonder, "Why am I breaking out after coming back from holiday?" This could be due to several factors. Traveling can expose your skin to different environments, climates, and pollutants, which can disrupt your skin's balance and lead to breakouts. Also sometimes using the wrong SPF can lead to breakout skin. Changes in diet or sleep patterns during your holiday can also contribute to post-holiday acne.

So, how do you get rid of holiday acne? Returning to your regular skincare routine as soon as possible can help your skin regain its balance. Also, consider using a gentle exfoliator to remove any buildup of dead skin cells or pollutants. If your skin is particularly stressed, products like Obagi Clenziderm system can help soothe and treat breakouts and opting for a non-comogenic moisturier like the Obagi Hydrate is advised.

BREAKOUTS AFTER EXERCISE

Another common question is, "Can working out cause spots on skin?" The answer is yes, it can. While exercise itself is good for your skin as it increases blood flow and nourishes skin cells, the sweat and oils that your skin produces during a workout can clog your pores if not properly cleaned, leading to breakouts.

So, how do you get rid of spots from the gym? It's essential to cleanse your skin immediately after a workout to remove sweat and oil. Using a product like Obagi CLENZIderm M.D.® Daily Care Foaming Cleanser can help keep your pores clear. Also, avoid wearing makeup during a workout and always clean your workout equipment before use to prevent the spread of bacteria.

TEENAGE ACNE

We see many teenagers at The Medished, many of them children of existing patients. Although most teens will have acne at some point they may be embarrassed by it. I can't stress how important it is to take your teen's feelings about acne seriously. Acne can cause low self-esteem and if we help them in the early stages this can help decrease the long-term effects of acne. I offer a hand held teen acne service which includes a bespoke medical grade skincare plan tailored to them with Whatsapp access for top tips. Certain makeups and lifestyle factors can increase breakouts... we are always on hand to help! Sun exposure can make acne worse, and some medications make skin susceptible to the sun's rays so it's essential a physical SPF is worn daily by everyone! (easier said than done with teenagers!)

Also it's advisable to not touch or pick at problem areas as this can lead cot scarring. If the problem is more severe I will advise a dermatologist referral.

In conclusion, preventing acne involves a combination of a healthy lifestyle, a good skincare routine, and possibly, the use of topical treatments. It's important to remember that everyone's skin is different, and what works for one person may not work for another. Therefore, it's crucial to understand your skin type and find a skincare regimen that suits you best. For more information on acne and its treatments, visit our Acne Treatment page and read our previous blog. https://www.drdil.co.uk/post/how-to-treat-acne-with-medical-grade-skincare.

Remember, the journey to clear skin may take time, but with the right information and products, it's possible to help prevent acne and maintain a healthy, glowing complexion.
