We love a bit of fun here at The Medished... and yes that's me hanging out with my girls poolside talking to them about my favourite Obagi SPF's!! (I wish! I'm stuck in the shed working! Just day dreaming!).

So spring is here, and with it comes warmer weather and longer days. While you may be excited to spend more time outdoors, it's important to remember the harmful effects that the sun can have on your skin.  As a skincare expert, I'm here to tell you that using SPF every day is one of the best things you can do for your skin. Not just in the summer, but all year round. In this post, we'll explore the benefits of using SPF on skin health and appearance, the differences between chemical and physical SPFs, and the best SPF products from the Obagi ranges.

First of all, let's talk about the benefits of using SPF. It's not just about avoiding sunburns (although that's definitely a good reason to use it!). Sun damage can lead to premature ageing, wrinkles, fine lines, and age spots. Over time, it can even increase your risk of skin cancer. But by using SPF every day, you can help protect your skin from these harmful effects of the sun.

Now, let's talk about the differences between chemical and physical SPFs. Chemical sunscreens work by absorbing the sun's UV rays and converting them into heat. They tend to be lightweight and easy to apply, but they can sometimes irritate sensitive skin. Physical sunscreens, on the other hand, work by reflecting the sun's UV rays away from the skin. They tend to be a bit heavier and thicker, but they're generally better for sensitive skin and provide more immediate protection upon application.

Here’s some of my favourite products:

Obagi Sun Shield TINT™ Broad Spectrum SPF50 is available in Cool or Warm. These tinted sunscreen shields skin from UVA and UVB rays. But unlike most sunscreens, this sun protection product also defends against infrared rays. Instead of going by skin tone, this sunscreen is designed to match your natural undertone and enhance your natural complexion. Choose the Warm tone SPF 50 shade if you have yellowish, golden or olive undertones, a darker complexion that tans more easily. Use the Cool tone SPF 50 shade if you have bluish, red or pink undertones, fair skin that sunburns more easily. These products are so good you can use it alone as your makeup base!

Obagi Professional-C Suncare SPF 30: This vitamin C-infused sunscreen provides broad-spectrum protection against UVA and UVB rays while also brightening and evening out your skin tone. Its dual function product combines SPF 30 with 10% L-Ascorbic Acid. It is an elegant lotion that feels luxurious when applied with a built in makeup primer!

Obagi's HydraFactor is a lightweight, hydrating sunscreen that provides broad-spectrum protection against UVA and UVB rays. In addition to SPF 30 protection, it also contains hyaluronic acid and other nourishing ingredients to help keep the skin hydrated and healthy-looking. It's designed to be non-greasy and absorb quickly, making it a great choice for everyday wear. Overall, Obagi's Hydrafactor is a great option for those looking for a sunscreen that not only protects but also nourishes and hydrates the skin.

Obagi Sun Shield Matte Broad Spectrum SPF 50: This lightweight, matte-finish sunscreen provides broad-spectrum protection against both UVA and UVB rays. It's also non-greasy and doesn't leave a white cast, making it perfect for daily wear.

We also stock a nice range of SPF's from the ZO Skinhealth range too! So I absolutely love all the SPF’s from this range .. there really is something for everyone and every skin type. See below for some of my favourite options. All available via The Medished.

If your on a budget, then I also highly recommend the heliocare and la roche posay SPFs ranges both available on amazon. Definitely 5 star rated! So in conclusion, using SPF daily is essential for protecting your skin from the sun's harmful rays and maintaining its health and appearance. Whether it's spring, summer, fall, or winter, you should always use SPF to protect your skin from the detrimental impacts of sun exposure. So be sure to include SPF in your daily skincare routine, and enjoy the benefits of healthy, youthful-looking skin for years to come!

It's no surprise to my patients that I LOVE everything associated with Obagi skincare, so when they launched their new device called Skintrinsiq this year I knew immediately that it would benefit my patients' skin health. I founded my practice on the core principle around skin health so much so it's our tagline and the message is up in lights for you all to see! Currently, the only other Skintrinsiq device available in London is in Harrods! So luckily you don't have to trek there.... just come to the Medished!

WHAT IS SKINTRINSIQ?

The Obagi Skintrinsiq device is backed by 30 years of scientific skincare research and development by the experts at OBAGI. Its innovative pneumatic technology gently lifts your skin to open channels into its surface layers. The Skintrinsiq device extracts impurities to deeply cleanse your skin and then infuses proven Obagi products through those open channels. When the vacuum is removed, the channels close to lock the products into your skin where they can’t be rubbed away and will continue to work after your treatment is over.

Benefits of the Obagi Skintrinsiq device include:

  • It is a relaxing, spa-like facial experience

  • Deeply cleanses the skin by extracting impurities

  • It is backed by 30 years of medical skincare expertise

  • It can be customized for individual skincare needs

  • The device allows for an optional simultaneous LED light treatment to help you reach your skincare goals

  • No downtime and perfect any time of the year especially when you want to look extra fabulous!

How long does a Skintrinsiq treatment take?

Obagi designed Skintrinsiq treatments to deliver maximum benefits while still fitting into your busy life. Most Skintrinsiq treatments take less than 30 minutes.

What results should I expect and how long will they last?

Many people notice their skin looks brighter and more vibrant even after one treatment. The thoroughly infused product benefits can last for several days. To get the most from your Skintrinsiq treatments, continue to use your Obagi skincare routine at home. One Skintrinsiq treatment every month can accelerate and enhance the results you’ll see with your home routine.

What types of skin are appropriate for a Skintrinsiq treatment?

There are Skintrinsiq treatment protocols that work well for all skin types.

What are the treatment protocols available with Skintrinsiq?

  • Antioxidant: to refresh and revitalize the skin. Great for fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, age spots, and acne scars.

  • Clarifying: to improve oily, blemish-prone skin and reduce the appearance of congested pores. Fantastic for my Acne prone patients.

  • Brightening: to reveal a more even and radiant complexion. We use vitamin C-RX serums and hydroquinone to achieve even-toned skin. Great for fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, melasma, sun damage, and age spots.

  • Firming: to support resilience and elasticity while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. We use the heavily researched Obagi Elastiderm facial serum in this protocol and it's great for fine lines, wrinkles, and loose skin.

What are the stages of a Skintrinsiq treatment?

Extraction

Impurities and debris that have built up on the skin’s surface will be gently vacuumed away to make the skin better able to fully absorb the infusion of Obagi skin care products.

Infusion

Some of Obagi’s most popular antioxidant and skin rejuvenation products will be applied to the skin to enhance its health and protection while renewing its appearance.

LED

The Skintrinsiq™ device will be gently guided along the skin to deliver the benefits of blue and red light therapy.

Lock

After the Obagi skin care products have been delivered to the skin, they are “locked” in so they can continue enhancing collagen and elastin, ultimately helping the skin to renew itself long after the treatment has been performed.

What is the cost of a Skintrinsiq treatment?

£175

So in conclusion, the Skintrinsiq treatment process is known to provide patients with a relaxing experience... after all, we all love a bit of wellness in our crazy chaotic lives. The procedure is completely non-invasive but packs a punch and delivers real results. No downtime or recovery will be necessary after the Skintrinsiq facial treatment... so this is why we invest in the best technology here at the Medished! It really is time to upgrade your skin forever!!

We are now taking bookings so contact Jamie to get yourself on the waiting list:)

Today, I want to talk about a question that many people ask me: do we really need a separate eye cream? I hear this question a lot, and the short answer is: it depends.

Let me explain. The skin around your eyes is thinner and more delicate than the skin on the rest of your face. This means that it can be more susceptible to dryness, fine lines, and wrinkles. Additionally, the skin around your eyes doesn't produce as much oil as the rest of your face, which means it can be prone to dryness and flakiness.

So, in general, if you're looking to prevent or reduce fine lines, wrinkles, and dryness around your eyes, an eye cream can be beneficial. However, not all eye creams are created equal.

First, let's talk about what you should look for in an eye cream. The best eye creams will contain ingredients that hydrate and plump the skin, such as hyaluronic acid and glycerin. They may also contain antioxidants like vitamin C, which can help protect the delicate skin around your eyes from environmental stressors like pollution and UV rays.

Now, let's talk about what you should avoid in an eye cream. Some eye creams contain ingredients like retinol, which can be too harsh for the delicate skin around your eyes. If you're using a retinol-based eye cream, make sure it's specifically formulated for the eye area and start with a low concentration. My absolute favourite is the one by Skinbetter Science called Eyemax.

In addition, some people may have an allergic reaction to certain ingredients in eye creams, so it's always a good idea to patch test a new product before applying it to your entire eye area.

Finally, it's worth noting that you don't necessarily need a separate eye cream. If you're using a high-quality moisturizer that's suitable for your skin type, you can use it around your eyes as well. Just be sure to apply it gently and avoid pulling or tugging on the delicate skin.

In conclusion, do we really need eye creams? If you're looking to prevent or reduce fine lines, wrinkles, and dryness around your eyes, an eye cream with hydrating and plumping ingredients can be beneficial especially with added vitamin A. A good quality moisturiser can also be used around your eyes if you prefer. On a personal note, I have always used a separate eye cream as I believe that the formulations are better for the skin around the eye.

Thank you for reading, and as always, if you have any questions or concerns about your skin don't hesitate to get in touch.

Dil x
